UPS problem - pc won't start...

    Hi,

I had a UPS and it was working fine for like a couple years, but now the computer won't start, only the fan works when I turn it on. I disconnected UPS and now all is fine - so what's the problem with the UPS?

    Thanks,
    Karl

Does the UPS have a self test button on it you can use?

If there is no self test button then try turning the UPS off and back on - most run a test when first turned on.

The only explanations I can think of as to why the computer will not turn on are:

    1. the UPS has been turned off
    2. The power range settings in the UPS have decided that the power supply is out of range and has switched to battery with the battery having been fully used.

They usually last around four to five years. I replaced the battery in my UPS last week - it had been in use since June 2009.

My UPS worked fine for poweing the computer throughout the week between determining the battery was dead and installing the replacement so I doubt that is the cause of the computer failing to operate through the UPS.

No, just one button to turn it on.

BTW the computer no longer has this problem, I disconnect it, cleaned inside of computer with compressed air, re connected it after a couple days and all seems fine

    Thanks all!

Try reading threads before answering. The post immediately above yours says that the problem has already been fixed.

Also it is not always necessary to be actually at the computer to be able to advise how to fix these types of problems - the posts in this thread demonstrate that with suggestions as to things to try.

Read the thread. It was resolved, and the mod right above your post said to read the post.

    Plus, that made no sense.
