Exclamation Do I need special software?

I have acquired 1 TB USB hard drive. I cannot get the full 1 tb ofcapacity using the usual Windows format. Do I need special software to use the full capacity?

You won't get 100% out of any drive, as part of the drive is reserved for the file system. Each system has a certain amount of space for the OS to use for locating files, etc.

How much space are you seeing? With a 1TB drive you should see about 932GB of actual space since HD manufacturers consider 1 KB to be a 1000 bytes whereas computer use 1KB = 1024 bytes.

If you're using Windows 8 Pro (going by your sig), then that's about the correct amount. Win 8 Pro uses about 43Gb (going by MS Surface Pro; 128Gb - 63 and 64 - 23) Then there's all the other pre-installed software. The best you could do is delete the preinstalled bloatware (most likely antivirus; not recommended though)
Coding is a challenge, get used to it
    Always remember to debug
Try the guess & check method
Break it down into simple steps
