    Question file sharing

    Hello !

Does anyone know a way to share files w/ somebody ?

What i'd like to do is basically allow read-access to a friend of mine to a particular file folder on my computer that he could alway access when I'm online.

I've thought about possibilities like emule and stuff but it does not really work (does not find the file, have to wait in the queue to get the port...).
Sending files per IM or Email is no good either.

Is there another way, maybe a small utility, to achieve that ?

    Tks in advance
    Fred

PS: privacy of shared files is not important (who wants to see my last vacation pics or hear my sister singing anyway? So possible access from third persons would not disturb me)

Hi Jason, tks for the very fast answer ! Although I must say that's a bit high for me.
    - What is Apache (please, please, don't tell me it is a helicopter)?

    - Web server ? you mean I have to buy a server to share a few files ?

Sorry, this is not really in my competence area.
    Cheers

Apache is a web server software. It runs on Windows and Linux and I think a few other platforms.

If you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP you can also use Internet Information Services that comes with it.

Both peices of software are free.

What you could do is, setup an FTP site, then when your online you could give your IP address to your friend and they'd just have to type ftp://<Your IP> in their browser and it would let them download anything you put in the folder for the FTP site on your hard drive.
