    Dell Latitude CPi A laptop

Bought second hand by my father for me for Uni, a Dell Latitude CPi A laptop.

Now, it had Windows 2000 Professional with it, but since i have been used to windows 98 se and have the disks for it I decided to install the latter OS on it.

Having tried to do this, the install went fine, but now the monitor on the laptop isn't displaying correctly - it only shows the monitor as having the 640 x 440 (or 480? something like that) pixel resolution as an option, it's displaying 16 colours and worst of all, the screen size for the laptop display is literally half the size of the minitor. the screen is physically around 14" but the image showing the desktop etc. is only half this - bang on in the centre of the display and TINY.

i don't know how to fix this - i'm getting more and more frustrated. I've tried looking through some of the control panel options etc. but still no joy.

i'm not too good with hardware and things like that, and my measly suggestion is maybe it needs a driver or something to work? i've looked on the Dell website, and i've got a list of around ten drivers for my system that i can download for the monitor - will this work, perhaps? am i going about this the wrong way?

    thank you for any help!

    Sarah.

you need to get the correct driver for it, having the incorrect driver reduces the colour and size of the screen.

thank you for the confirmation. now there's just the hassle of trying to find out which one (there's a list on the Dell website of:

    Dell 1503FP
    Dell 1701FP
    Dell 1702FP
    Dell E551a Monitor
    Dell E551c
    Dell E771a
    Dell E771p
    Dell M781p/M781mm Monitor
    Dell M782
    Dell M991
    Dell M992
    Dell Monitor Driver
    Dell P1130
    Dell P791
    Dell P792
    Dell P992)

And as far as I can tell there's no way I can figure out which one is for my laptop...?

    Thanks again!

go into the control pannel and click on the display icon, then click the settings tab. in the dropdown box colours can you select a different color setting above 16 colors, if yes post what the values you can change it to here.

also try sliding the screen area slider to the right so it makes the screen area bigger.
