Bought new Soundcard but no Sound!!

I bought a new sound card and installed it successfully. I also installed the drivers just fine. The thing is, when I go to Multimedia in the Control Panel, it's not listed in my Preferred Device list. I bought it because I have no sound card. For some reason, Theres some kind of Wave device driver under the Sound hardware. It's the modem. But there's no speaker connection on that modem card. I've tried uninstalling both, but still no luck. There are no conflicts. There's nothing wrong with anything. The only thing is that I can't choose it as my Preferred device for sound!! It's so frustrating!

In case you guys need to know, this is the kind of sound card I bought:

    Typhoon Theatre
    6 Speaker Surround Sound
    PCI Audio Accelerator

Does your motherboard have onboard AC'97 sound by any chance? Many do and this can set itself as default.
