    Yeah, FPS games are (to me) extremely stale. I was hoping that the introduction of more VR stuff would revitalize the genre, but with Facebook purchasing OR, I'm now quite skeptical.

    OK, to add a little more to the discussion: I suppose with “combat games” you mean stuff like first-person shooter games? I can’t understand why those games are so popular, anyway. I mean, yeah, this can be fun for a while and we all were young and adventurous but as you said, there is barely anything new in shooting enemies.

    However, I think technology is still advancing in a manner that will add new aspects to such games — and what most people are probably longing for in such games is a much realism/immersion as possible. I’ve heard of the company Oculus VR for the first time a couple of days ago when news spread that Facebook bought them for a couple billion dollars, but have seen it mentioned a few times since. Now, with VR goggles and evolving 3D technology there is probably a whole new level of immersion in such games, and therefore this isn’t gonna get boring very soon, I suppose.

    Well, I’m more a fan of stragtegy games like SimCity, Transport Tycoon (or its open source derivative OpenTTD), or even Masters of Orion, so I can’t really add anything meaningful to the subject of this post. I just wanted you to not feel lonely posting here. :-D
