    ASP.net & SOA

Hi, Im doing my university project on ASP.net and I'm supposed to implement a Service Oriented Architecture.

I'm new to ASP.net but have worked on PHP & ASP before. So I guess it'll be easy to get started with ASP.net.

The problem is I'm not sure how do I go about implementing an SOA Architecture! I have no idea on how to go about. Any tips on how should I proceed would be helpful.

Secondly, to code in ASP.net & implement SOA which Visual Studio should I get? VS 2005 or VS .net 2003 ?

Microsoft seems to have an IDE for SOA named as Whitehorse. Is this what I shd get?

Also any book I can refer to learn about implementing an architecture in asp.net?

There is a series of tutorials in the MSDN library you might be interested in called 3-tier Architecture with ASP.NET 2.0. That's just another term for SOA. Anyway, in my opinion, it's as good an introduction to SOA as any book you could buy. It walks you through setting up such a system using the Northwind database. Great stuff!

You should use Visual Studio 2005 if you're going to code in .NET 2.0, which you really should since it's the latest version.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with it.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. Visual Studio 2003 works for ASP.NET 1.1, while Visual Studio 2005 works for ASP.NET 2.0. Some people just call it Visual Studio, thinking you'll know which version they're talking about. Same thing with calling it Visual Studio .NET.

Hope this explains a little better.
