    that is asp.net. the ending for the classical asp is .asp but for the asp.net its aspx

    i believe the x siginifies a compliance to xml standards and helps to make the transition from classic asp up easier for everyone
    ie.
    .aspx = Active Server Page new platform xml ready
    .ascx = Active Server Control new platform xml ready
    .asax = Active Server Application-logic new platform xml ready
    then a different naming convention but the same point
    .docx =(doc short for document) Microsoft Open Office XML Format
