hi i am having a problem positioning a background image i can get the image to do most things like across the top of the page or down the left of the page or cover the whole page but what i cant do is position the image any where i want on the page behind a div or divs ive tried all sorts of things but cant seem to get it working when i try positioning using float all the other content moves below the image it seems to me you must be able to place the image anywhere on the page behind other div tags the way you would position a dive tag on the page can anyone help and show me the code to place an image anywhere thanks

Post a link up to your page and then say exactly where you want it! :)

I'm still not picturing where you want it sorry! There's no space really between the columns... :/

i can get the image to repeat on the page behind everything but i just want the image not to repeat but show up in once on the page behind the content of the first and second column.

Try using background-repeat: no-repeat and background-position: 100px 500px ... I just made up those numbers but have a play with them to get it to the position you want (first one is the x value, second is the y).
