Signup/Login Members Script

Hi all, I need some help.
I am making a site for someone and i need a script that will allow people to signup and login so they can chat. The rest of the site is free just the chating page.. Is there a good script that i can use for this????

no asp or php,, i dont think the server soppurts it. I know it supports perl though.
