Launching a web application in its own IE window by clicking a shortcut icon

Hi,
I developed a classic asp web application and deployed it to the users by setting up a shortcut icon on users desktop. This morning I heard a complain that goes like this...

it doesn’t open into a new internet explorer window. It pulls up an already open internet explorer window which is very annoying

To be honest with you I was annoyed by this too and tried to fix it without a success before. Please help. Thank you.

there are two solutions...


1 the user changes the way shortcuts are opend...
right click on IE icon then go to properties.
once properties window is open click on the "advanced" tab.
scroll down to the section labeled "browsing" and about 3/4 the way in that list is the "reuse windows for launching shrotcuts".
have the user uncheck that.

the other option is to run your application as a .hta file.(hyper text application).

since your applications is for IE this will not cause a problem. normally i would reccomed not using this cuz .hta files are dependant upon the user's computer having I.E. on it. hta's are applications, which means they have higher security privilages, and they run in their own window.

hta's do not contain any of the typical stuff that I.E has at the top of the window. it is just a window frame with whatever conent you put inside.

if your app wasn't being called by a shortcut, there would be no problem. I would probably just tell the user to change their I.E. settings.
