Hello,
I am currently in the beginning stage of building an online business and am looking for some preliminary cost on web design. I have limited knowledge in design and architecture so bare with me in my attempts to explain what i need for a site. This is a ecommerce business and revenue will mainly be derived from advertising and member merchandise. The site will be community base around a general interest and should allow people to become members and post blogs as well as design personal itenaries or profiles of their interests, also will need ability to post pictures of interest. Original design should focus on blogging or posting threads, design should allow people to search through information or posts by either subjects or locations. After a month or two of input from members the site will expand to cover a database of information on various subjects that needs to be easily accesible for member and nonmembers to view & search through. Site must be able to handle a significant amount of graphics and flash videos. Ease of manuevering through site as well as speed of information to post and load is very important. Initially site should be able to handle 25,000 visitor/members and must be readily easy to expand to heavier volume when needed. Looking for basic info on what type of team i need to form for implementing and estimated cost and time involved for project from people with more experience then I currently have.

I can't help you actually build the site, but I'll tell that you need a team of designers, php/mysql coders. preferably a company with a reputation. about the cost, i think several thousand $ (my uneducated guess).
