Im very new at all this web dev stuff so please bear with me. A few days ago my roomate and i decided to make a online radio station so we got a streaming server and started broadcasting.

I decided id make a wepage for the station so i purchased a domain name and some cheap hosting. I then downloaded web page creator and made a simple web page with an chat room and some other dumb stuff. The part whree im stumped are forums. I dont exactly know how the ftp directory thing works but I always thought that if you have say something like

Index
pics
bla
bla

that if you put a pic in pics you could just go to mydomain.com/pics/mypic to look at it but I guess not. My point is when you upload the forums all the tutorials tell me to go to http://www.mydomain.com/thedirectoryuploadedto/install.php
but when I do it just says NOT FOUND the equested url/.......... not found on this server.

I guess My question is what do I do... how can I make the files in the ftp index accessible by just puting them after mydomain.com/

my we page is located in a directory named deezeeradio and the homepage is name index.html but I dont understand why when i goto my site it is the homepage.

Anyways I guess all this is confusing and it would be just thegreatest if you guys could help id appreciate it very much.

thanks

On most hosting, the folder structure is setup different when viewed using ftp. You should have maybe a public_html folder, or a www folder, sometimes its also called root. Can you take a screenshot of your ftp program open when you login? We can probably tell you what folder your files need to be in. If you do see a public_html folder then that is the folder where all files you want to be seen by the browser need to be. Let this be a lesson to you, don't bite off more than you can chew.

the index had a folder named deezeeradio.com which had my website in it and such but.........Just like 5 mins b4 i checked this I deleted it thinking it dident matter and tried moing my site to the main index page low and behold i no longerworks.....im guess i messed up by deleting that so Ill put that back lol. Ill also try uploading the forums there.

thanks for letting me know that they do that. Ill post later on whether it worked or not.

I'm guessing when he uses FTP, he can see folders for many websites,
but only has access to his: "the index had a folder named deezeeradio.com"

His use of "index" is referring to the list of directories he saw.
So then, he deleted the whole "deezeeradio.com" website?

I'm also guessing if he would have clicked on the directory named
deezeeradio.com, it would have opened with the directories called,
"public_html" or "www" ...

He may have to call his webhost and see if they can recover the files
from their last backup. He should call them before the backup is erased.

I meant that when I loged into the ftp main page all I used to see was

Log
deezeeradio.com

deezeeradio.com was the folder that would be the same as WWW and public_html it was just named differently in my case. I just remade the folder and uploaded everything there now i works great! thanks guys for helping me im glad not everyone on the internet are douchebags.
