What is the process to transfer a domain to a new owner. Do I just edit all the contact and admin information to the new owners name so he can then grab it?

Normally what you would do is have the person who it is transferring to request the transfer through their domain registrar account. That registrar will then send a notice to the present administrator of that domain to acknowledge the transfer.

It seems you want to change the WHOIS information of the domain . WHOIS shows information about the owner, administrator, registrant of any domain. You have to change all deatils via domain manager control panel if you have access to or ask the registrant to change it.

That's assuming that you want to hand over your account to someone else. That is usually not a good idea. You would now have to give them your login and you'd have to make sure all of your financial information and history in the account was removed otherwise they will now have access to that information.

The proper way is for them to create their own account at the registrar of their choosing and then initiate a domain transfer from one account to the other.

Yes. Agree. How old the site is also matters. It mite be a single domain.. registrar to registra change option is there or not.... But that is for Len Whistler to decide. It can be done also as Spookster wrote.

What ever you do, make sure you take a back up of your website. I had a terrible time when I shifted my website. And I do not think handing the site by altering admin info is such a good idea. Too risky if you ask me

Ok thanks for all the replies. Spookster is correct.

Since this is my first transfer of a domain it's going slower than expected and is still not complete yet. Lots of emails between me, the new owner, my registrar and godaddy.
