Image Width

I have an image in a table; the images are kind of a border for the content in the middle of the table. I'm currently using width="100%" for the bottom image (the width and height of the table can vary as it will be used for multiple different areas).

So the question is: How do I get a different image to automatically expand to the height of the cell it's in? I've tried height="100%", height="auto", etc... but none have worked properly.

You will probably need to set the images as background images.

Thanks. I used background even though it isn't compliant...How difficult would it be convert it to CSS?
