disabling the STOP button in NS 6+ or IE 5+

How does one disable the stop button in NS and IE?
I'm trying to use pushlets to fake unsolicited events from the server to the client. This works fine unless the user clicks the STOP button. I need to either disable it, or when its clicked, I need to run a javascript method to restart the event requestor.

you can detect if ESC key is pressed which also stops the browser from processing but you can't detect when Stop button is clicked.
