I'm having a problem with a 1px border area appearing in IE (but not FF) on the left hand edge of a div container.
Both the div container and the graphic are 995px wide.
You can see this here:
Works fine in IE but not FF.

Grateful for any ideas on a fix

It's not a border; it's the background image shifting 1px to the left.
I have the same issue, and I regret to say I have no clue how to solve this; I've been delving into it when I first noticed the effect, but sort of gave up after turning up a blank time and time again.
It appears to only be happening in IE (6.0/win, at least); a possible fix would be to feed IE a specific style rule to correct to error. This should be hidden from other browsers by using IE's conditional comments or otherwise the image would be shifted to the right 1px in--presumably--everything but IE.

Thanks for that - IE!!
Is it possible to apply a style only to IE - wasn't aware of that?
Any other ideas for a fix out there?

This might help explain things

Yeah, that was one of the things I've been looking into, but it didn't seem to explain this particular error. I must say the exact circumstances have escaped me a bit because I haven't looked into it for some time, but I think this was a different case.
For one thing: my layout uses a fixed width, centered container with the background image aligned right; also, resizing the window doesn't show any flickering.
This page on Quirksmode tells it all: conditional comments (http://www.quirksmode.org/css/condcom.html).
