iPod backlight turns on whenever I sync it

I have the backlight turned off in my settings so the battery will last longer, but since I switched to iTunes 7, every time I sync my iPod and after I unplug it, the backlight is set to 10 Seconds. It's not a big problem, I can just turn it off, but it's getting pretty annoying. Anyone know how to make this not happen?

I'm not sure my G5 does the same, but the screen is always lit up while charging/syncing. Seems a bit of a waste of power, but maybe it's just something that's been overlooked. Regardless, it's a pain in the bottom. :(
