BottomMargin=0 is not working.

Ok.. So I've read that everyone is pretty much against tables here.. We'll if someone would be kind enough to help me out with my problem they are going to see a lot of em.. My website is infested with them...

But here is my problem. http://6oz.karmassault.net/3.php

Problem number 1: I've used bottom-margin=0 and My website does not reach to the bottom of the page.. There's a huge gap of nothing. I'm using firefox.. there is nothing that should be stopping it.. At first I thought a broken end tag.. But I can't find one..

Problem number 2: on the right of the page there is a table consisting of table with 7 rows, 3 columns starting with the Quick Contact image.. at the very bottom under the Members image is a td with a background image set to 100% height and then 2 empy td's... the background doesn't stretch to the bottom

To everyone that this concerns, which probably just my fellow website owners.. I got a little bored and decided to do a new layout to follow up the new server. Welp, before I started my fellow webmaster, Scoob, told me that If i did this **** again that he would not help me until the coding to the layout was finished.. We'll, it's taking a little bit longer and im a little more problems than I originally predicted. Meh oh well I'll figure it out.. So this post is actually just a test because I can't get the damned news script to work right! Grrrrr!!! How did everyones weekend go? Thats good.. Mine didn't go so well. I mean it was Okay but thats all you can really say.. Just some things got to me.. My dad drives a 18wheeler so when he comes in I spend the weekend with him. Well we were on our way to Corinth and he kept dazing off behind the wheel.. Car weeves this way.. car weeves that way.. I was on edge all the way to and from.. For someone that drives a truck thats not too safe... And then I spent the night at my grandmothers house for 2 nights.. And omg she cooks enough food to kill an army.. I would wake up and food would be ready.. 30 minutes later food would be ready.. an hour later food would be ready.. It's like I ate 10 meals A day.. and I couldn't not eat that would be just rude.. And it wouldnt be so bad if she didnt cook so badly.. The food as meh.. I should say not very tasty.. the salsbury steak was awful.. and then she puts all the leftovers in the stove.. and brings em back out the next meal.. except she doesn't warm em up.. so its cold burnt biscuits from breakfast and some kinda cold stew.. I still love her and appreciate the thought.. but geez im not a horse.. I can only eat so much...<br /><br />With that aside Im going to start working on the website and content should be ALmost done by tomorrow...

Well... As you can so obviously tell... I'm Scoob... I'll prolly be the mod you hear from the least... I do most of the background work... I like to think I'm the one that keeps things up and running. BUT I know that if it wasn't for my lil wraffy "Snizk" I'd have nothin to keep up and runnin... Aww man, that you are using tables isn't even the worst thing with your code... Did you write that all by hand? If you were using an editor (other than a regular text editor) then you should really look for a different program because what you have there is not only bad practice but also such an invalid code it hurts my eyes.

OK, to answer your question in the title of this thread: It's not working because there is no HTML attribute called bottommargin, as there is no topmargin and margin attribute. Where did you learn that?

Also, using Dreamweaver, it revealed that you have a lot of missing ending tags (closing </font>) and that you have several nesting errors.

The first thing for you to do is to fix the 56 errors (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2F6oz.karmassault.net%2F3.php) you have, starting with applying a doctype (explained in the previously mentioned link). This could already fix your problem. If not, come back and we will look closer at it and find the issue.

Dude text editors are good, but your coding does really need some work. Use XHTML. It will make you code look much better and work better.

I noticed these guys are right about your CSS skillz. Don't use an editor, it's only a crutch. Pick up some good CSS books and start reading. One of my favorite books is called "Web Standards Design Guide" by Ruse. After that, you probably need the CSS for dummies book, and the CSS Pocket Reference by Eric A. Meyer. Once you get a good understanding about CSS, you won't wonder why bottommargin isn't working. It's margin-bottom by the way.

Solution: Use CSS for page presentation, not HTML.

Let me point out again that the margin, topmargin, and bottommargin attributes are invalid. The background attribute is valid, but presentation should, again, be done via CSS, as in the following rewrite of the above snippet:

ive been using topmargin bottommargin my whole life.. always works for me..

i learned html but viewing sources, when i was like 11.. so after 8 years im still using the same things ive learned.. which really shows.. i didn't know my coding was that bad.. i always learned if it works it works..

but i appreciate all your help.. thank you very much.. and css sounds like the new html, ill head up to barnes and noble later tomorrow to pick up some books

You code according to the W3C standards both for greater efficiency and interoperability; in this specific case, by separating style from structure (CSS vs. HTML) and using code universally recognized by standards-compliant browsers. The attributes you mentioned are, according to the resource you provided, proprietary to Microsoft and only designed to work with their Internet Explorer browser; there are other browsers out there: Firefox, Konquerer, Netscape, Opera, and Safari, to name a few.
