Animated .gif: css blend filter

Howdy,
I have an animated gif on a gradient background. The gif has a transparent background... but the transparency agains the visible part of the image looks jagged. I noticed css has visual filters... is there any way to blend a white background or transparent background with css? Kind of like the "multiply" blend mode in photoshop.

Make the main background color of the image the same as the background color of your site. You could use a png but it will be a lot of work to just get the background working in IE6 since it doesn't support alpha transparent pngs natively.
