View Full Version : How to Set up Directories Properly

Hi, i just want some advice on how to set up folders on a webspace properly.

at the moment i put all the html or php files in one folder, and images and scripts in their own folders.

but i've seen websites that have addresses such as www.site.com/about-me

so im assuming they set up directories for each page and call the folder 'about-me' and call the about-me.htm page as index.htm in that folder.

and they do that for every page.

i just want to know if this is the correct way of doing it, or is there a better or more efficient way?

Personal preference, really. I try to set up directories so the URLs are easy to remember later.

There's also .htaccess, where you can set it up to have http://domain.com/about go to http://domain.com/about.html for super-clean urls, but I can't wrap my head around that yet. ;)

More than likely, lots of sites will be using .htaccess with mod_rewrite. Forgotten how to do it myself but I don't think it's too hard!
