www. replacement

I was just wondering how some sites are able to replace the www. with other names, for example http://news.google.com or club.cdfreaks.com

ok, but how is it achieved? is it through a server side language? or placement through the domain?

you go to your hosting company website thing (possibly godaddy) and set up a subdomain. simple as that. in godaddy it is easy, just go to your hosting manager and choose add subdomain and type what you want, like subdomain and that would become subdomain.yourwebsite.com in a folder with the subdomain name.

Even if godaddy isn't your hosting company, you probably have some sort of control panel from which you can setup a subdomain. If you don't see an option like that, check with your web host. They can help you out.
