Windows update keeps telling me to install 2 updates for office 2003 (KB894542, KB921580) These updates are for Outlook and Publisher. I didn't install either of these and don't want them. Every time I turn my computer on it tells me to install the update, but when i click install on them it says failed. It also says failed when i try it from the windows update site and when I manually download them from the microsoft downloads site so I don't think theres a way for me to get rid of these updates by installing them.

I found this page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830335/) and tried the resolutions for scenario2, but I can't install the updates and when I uncheck them from the site it gives at the top, they are of course only unchecked for as long as I stay on that site, because I don't submit the form anywhere to say that I don't want them (and they are under the "required updates" section)

Is there any way I can get these annoying things to leave me alone? :(

I had the same problem. I reinstalled my windows installer and then went to the update page and installed the update, but I have Outlook 2003. If you don't have Outlook 2003, do a custom install and deselect the update and then select that you don't want to see it again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I didn't see that checkbox on the Microsoft Update page, I'm trying it now, hopefully it will stop bugging me (automatic updates has already downloaded them and it whines at me constantly to install them, and then when i turn windows off it spends a minute trying to install then too!)
