Avatars are cool and they're disabled... whats the problem - bandwidth, space, or what?

from my PM inbox

Hi whackaxe:
This was a decision the mods and I had arrived based on several reasons:

1) Avatars are prune to abuse as members may upload "questionable" images
2) They can become a bandwidth/ resource hog
3) In my opinion, avatars can become distracting to the rest of the posts, especially animated avatars

Due to this, we probably won't be allowing avatars in the foreseeable future. Hope this explains things,

George

why cant we have avatars on the forum? they are usefull so you can se at a glance who has posted. i suppose you have got a good reason for dissabling them so i just wanted to knwo what it was (even if it doesnt change anything). thanks

I can understand that,
but what about the who's online ? I know this has been asked before, but I forgot what the reply was (short on memory  )
because that can be very handy. take for example last night. I was having a small discusion with Joh6nn and I wanted to go to sleep, if I could see that he was replying to my post (and he did) I would have stayed a bit longer. now, he had to wait untill I did my beauty sleep :D

Me too. I really dislike avatars for all the reasons cited.

You seem a little touchy. A site with avs, would make the site take a lot longer to load. What is the point?

Personally I think mods should have avatars (big big mod guns  ) but generally avatars and graphic sigs make the page look untidy, particularly on a forum where content is foremost.

by "whatever", i meat that i see your point, but i still wouldn't mind avatars. Wasn't being touchy.
