Use both is better, but i normal use $_SESSION

SESSIONS are good for when you only want the variable to be available for the period of time that the browser is open and connected to your site. and COOKIES are good for when u wanna referrance values later (see if a visitor is revisiting)

They are not really comparable. Cookies is a way to store data on the client and sessions are a way of keeping track which user is which.

But if you store data in a cookie, it can be changed by the user. So unless it contains a password, cookies aren't very secure.

Beast is a combernation of Cokkies, Sessions and useing a database, storing the session ID and name etc etc....
