I here very good things about pMachine's ExpressionEngine (http://www.pmachine.com/ee/); however, while the--stripped down--core version can be downloaded for free, a full-featured personal version would cost you little less than $100, whereas the ones you mention are mostly free open source ones.
I have no experience with any of those, but I understood Mambo is known for it's not-so-standards-oriented markup, and the reviews at OpenSourceCMS (http://www.opensourcecms.com/) indicate that PHP-Nuke is not free anymore and Typo3 is overly complex and hard to get started with. Joomla is generally regarded as a good one, and reviews of E107 are generally positive as well (I've heard about this one somewhere else, too).
When it comes to blogging, I myself am still rather pleased with WordPress.

In addition, you might want to look into Drupal (http://drupal.org/node) as well: open source, so free, and seems to be pretty feature-rich. Some users report install problems, but others blaim these on improper server setup; at least it features a flexible tamplating system so the markup can be fully adopted to ones liking.
It may be more of a developer CMS than a simple to use, turn-key package.
