In a few weeks, I hope to have some basically functional code for Verbosio. At that point, I'll need some help testing it out and expanding a core set of extensions for Verbosio. This will begin with a Verbosio 0.1 release.
I'm hoping people of all sorts of experience, including students with little or no experience in XML, will participate.
There's no money available for this. :) I say this because the other threads in this forum so far have been offering money. I'm telling you up front I can't do that, although serious contributors may expect me to send them a free shirt with a Verbosio logo (and probably a pocket) when I decide to order shirts. I'm thinking polo shirts and an embroidered logo... though that could get expensive. Your name (and, at your discretion, contact information) will also be listed as a contributor in the Verbosio User's Manual.
Let me also state up front you need not have a whole bunch of experience. I am willing, as the primary author of the Verbosio project, to answer your questions and help you understand how to use Verbosio. Particularly if you force me to write down the answer in the manual!
Areas I will need help in:
QA / Bug Filing / Testing
Documentation (I'll gladly answer questions, but I probably haven't written down the answers yet), including helping to write the manual
Developing editing templates for Verbosio, preferably using Verbosio itself
Adapting existing XML-language-specific editors (such as a SVG editor) for Verbosio
Developing language-specific document viewers for Verbosio
Localization (big bonus points for this!)
Web Services for Verbosio (cvs diff, BugXULa, extension management)
You should have some knowledge of or desire to learn some of the following:
XML
XHTML
W3C Document Object Model
XUL
XBL
JavaScript
CSS
RDF
SVG
PHP
C++
In case you're wondering, you actually don't need knowledge of all these items; if you have knowledge of only two or three of these, that's fine! If you want to learn, that's also fine. My objective as the primary Verbosio author is to develop a XML editing tool that's not overly hard to use. If you want to take this as an opportunity to learn new stuff, please do! Just don't be afraid to question me or tell me I'm outright wrong. I need feedback as much as I need help.
At this point I can't really task anyone with doing work on Verbosio yet; the code is still not in a release-ready state, not even 0.1. I'm doing some experimental code work on a subproject of Verbosio right now, which will be a critical component of Verbosio. I just want to see who's interested right now, and to start gathering a list of people willing to help.
Thanks, everyone, in advance!
