how many folders can apache hold in one directory ? Im useing linux.

It didnt occur to me untill now, im writeing a script that uploads files and gives a user a link to download it, and each file is stored in its own folder with a unique ID. But now its occured to me that this may become a problem in the future.

Anyone got any ideas ?

wait for it to become an issue, it's not going to be any time soon, and you'll probably be doing something different then anyway.

well I dont want to have to write a script then have to completely rewrite another that can work around my old one.

I hink I came up with a solution anyhow, Im putting the files in a folder depending on what month it is and each file is going to be renamed to a 20 character random string,

#!/bin/bash
X=0
while [ $X -le 200000000 ]
do
mkdir $X
X=$((X+1))
done

try this and see how many did he handle.
Just dont expect too see all in the index
