I am semi knowledgeable on PC's, but would like more input before making a new purchase.

I am have seen 2 PC's configurations that I am interested in with my price range. I don't want to go more than $1,000 since most I have to buy a monitor as well which is going to be able $250 - $300 for a decent monitor...got to have a 19" LCD. I am needing the Dual-Core Processing technology & at least 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM since I run many applications all at once.

I have read the comparison that AMD puts out, but would like to hear from others that isn't trying to profit either way in their opinion. Here is AMD's Comparison Chart. Which do you think is better...the AMD Athlon 64 X2 & Intel Pentium D ?

I tend to favor amd processors.
The setup you posted with amd64 looks pretty sweet.
It has my vote.

One thing to consider though, currently amd64 technology is not fully taken advantage of by windows (linux is another story). Just keep that in mind.

Meaning that you need a 64-bit OS to take full advantage of it. And I don't think that media center edition they are bundling with it is one. There is a 64-bit version of XP Professional and of course you can get Linux for 64-bit.
