(obvious disclaimer: i just want to make backups of disks i own/play them across my local network)

Was looking for some advice on an app to rip cd's.
what do people use? I've used itunes on my mac in the past, but there are obvious short commings. Heres a partial list of hopeful qualities.

Freeware (hopefully GNU/GPL and OpenSource project)
Reasonably cross platform would be good (*nix and win, if not mac also)
Ability to transcode to OGG, MP3, etc (not just mp3)
Integration to CDDB, or freebd (for track naming, etc.... and also organization similar to itunes would be great)
Lightweight, non bloat-ware

as a note, I've been trying to rip disks with VLC (usually my media player/ streamer of choice) but i cant seem to do more than one track at a time (yuk)... anyone know what im doing wrong?

If anyone has a good opinion on the matter that perhaps doesnt necessarily meet all the above requirements, please weight in. Thanks!

I like CDex. Not sure if it's available for anything but Windows or not, though.
