I have a site with various sections which have yet more subsections so designing a good navigation element that works is getting to be a headache.

Can you guys suggest on some stuff to use (and link to sites that use it, if possible)? I don't know whether I should use static links or a javascript drop down menu. Should I put it on the left, the top?

So I'd like to see some various navigation examples that you guys think are good so I can decide on what to use.

Here's a great one:

Standards-compliant and search engine friendly with lots of examples, so you can see how it works.
