First off i would like to introduce myself, seeing how this is my first time posting on this forum... My name is WILL, nice to meet you all....

Now down to buisness.

I was considering trying to peice together a custom laptop but didnt know where to start. Does anyone know of any good websites for laptop parts (Mother boards and what not)?

Also, has anyone on here done this before....?

Thanks in Advance :D

Wouldnt recommend it for beginners - I wouldnt even know where to look for a 'consumer' supplier of parts - you could probably get a lot of bits from the manufacturers as 'replacement parts' but the case would be more difficult.

Laptops are incredibly fiddly to repair - I'd imagine nigh on impossible to build without special equipment, tools and maybe an asian child slave with tiny tiny hands.

Thanks for the response Nancy

Im far far away from a beginner  but am now just becoming comfortable with dissassembeling laptops (Thats what gave me the idea for creating my own)... For some reason this last week i have been tortured at work with various laptop hard drive problems, so i have been "getting my hands dirty" with them.

Anyways... I friend mentioned an article on this topic, that he had read. If i find it, i will post it here for anyone else who might be interested

thanks

Typically even if you build your own computers and such, you don't build your own laptop. As Nancy sort of mentioned, they are usually custom designed, the case being the hardest to come by. I've never research the topic extensively myself from what I know, that is the situtation.

You can get laptop, memory, hard drives, processors and such but I've never really seen too much in the way of building your own laptop completely from scratch.

Laptops just aren't as standardized as far as motherboard layout and such that allows for people make lots of generic parts for them.

Fixing laptops is a whole other thing and is easier since you can take it apart and get replacement parts.
