hello everyone!

i've run into a little rough patch with my hosting plan. i have a contact form using .php to forward the contents of the form to my email-ad, but turns out, that something i cant do. i dont have SMTP access.

i was wondering if anyone knew any services (free) that allow mail forwarding where i can host my .php script together with all associated files and simply link to them from my site?

that would be great! thanks! :)

(not sure where exactly this post belongs, but it's got something to do with my hosting so im posting it here. if any mods think it should be somewhere else, just move it to where you feel it is appropriate :) )

Check out www.addyour.net they don't have ads, and I think you can host a domain with them or use a subdomain. Its free too.

i've signed up to that and it's very very confusing to me.

my plan was to have an inline frame linking to the form uploaded to addyour.net and the .php file and other files associated with the form would also be uploaded to addyour.net.

(got this idea from VIP Stephen who helped me out with the .php script, thanks dude! )

but the interface is confusing. i cant find a direct link to the email.php file to put as the page for my inline frame.

is anyone using the addyou.net hosting services? could you help me out here please?

thanks!

Its just like any other hosting service. You get one ftp account. Login to the account through an FTP program, upload your files to the public_html folder. If you got a subdomain then it would be username.subdomain.com/linktoyourfile.php

i tried that but i get this (http://taglehomes.goldbananas.com/email.php).

i did everything you'd usually do with any free hosting plan:

1. register
2. log in
3. click on file manager
4. clicked upload file
5. browsed for the file and uploaded it
6. tried to access it by username.subdomain.com/email.PHP << my files is .PHP not .php
7. got error 404

maybe im doing it wrong? but its just that simple isnt it? how come i get the 404 error? is it supposed to go in a special folder or something?

here's what i see in my file manager:

(i dont use FTP coz im only plan to upload about 3 files with this hosting service -- the ones for the contact form.)

You need to put the file(s) into the public_html directory.
And maybe it's safer to rename it to email.php (in all lower case)...

I don't know but if you see my site with them http://pr2006.getmypage.com/test.php there seem to be no ads, at least in Firefox. What type of ads are you getting?

Okay it appears to have google ads. I have adblock on Firefox so I don't see them. Besides I thougt you just wanted to host one file not a whole site. My host is www.themooseisloose.net they have a free hosting plan with a 5 dollar setup fee, www.themooseisloose.net/freehosting.html

yup, im working my way around it now. instead of hosting the .php script of the contact form together with the .htm files on addyour.net, i've uploaded the .htm files to my ad-free hosting service and linking to the .php script at addyour.net

i still have a few kinks that i'm trying to work out with the code, but i'm getting there :) thanks again for suggesting addyour.net!
