what is the cure for this problem?
it also did it after logging on, due to my desktop wallpaper, but only did the illegal operationm, it went round in loops and i had to turn of the computer to get out of it.

i`m desperate
thanks in advance

i have tried reinstalling internet explorer, but it doesn`t fix the problem.
i might upgrade, but ie6 would seriously lag my computer, which has 64MB of ram,

Ram is cheap, you can get 256mb for 11 quid, or around $18.

Splash out if you can, and watch your computer work a lot faster.

What OS are you running Scroots? Mshtml.dll is responsible for image rendering in Internet Explorer. However problems are generally when using Windows 95 (you can't be surely? ) The solution is to either reduce colours or upgrade video drivers.

Mouse is right, this sounds very much like a defective video driver type problem. Especially since you're talking about it having trouble with your desktop wallpaper.

desktop wallparer is to do with active desktop, so you can have a html webpage as your desktop. i`m running window 98. i thought mshtml.dll was the html parsing dodah for internet explorer.
