I'm trying to think of a new name for my website, the website is to do mainly with ASP so I guess something along those lines would make sense.
My current name is Project Odyssey BUT! I can not secure the .com for it because it is alreadyregistered, so whatever my new name is it has to be able to be registered as a .com because I'd rather that.
So what I'm asking of you peeps is some suggestions for a new name. I will link to your website from mine if I pick your name...
Thanks in advance peeps.

Yeah, but it sounds like part of a huge crowd, it seems like blah, just there. Its like learnasp, not alto good.
Just my opinion.

I recently went through the pain of name searching myself (I'm partnering with someone to start a company that will provide complete web design, commercial writing, graphics design services) and here are a few things I found out:
- MOST of the simple domain names are already registered
- Putting words in the name that are related to what you do has a few negative effects. First, it does not really make you stand out of the crowd, second it becomes a limiting factor in the future: say in the few years ASP looses its market share to PHP or some other new server-side language, now you have to search for a new name. Same goes if you decide to expand your services/ get involved in other things (which will certainly happen).
- domain name does not HAVE to be the same as the web site / business name. You can try: projodyssey or odysseyproj. Also if yours is not a COMmercial web site, try other domain names: .net .org

I guess it is all in the name, and you don't want one that limits your site - preventing expansion.

If this is to be listed on the internet SE's (search engines), it's best to use asp somewhere in the URL. Because SE's cannot separate words from strings (e.g. asp4today would be one word), it's best to hypenate your URL which is then read as separate words (e.g. asp-4-today.com) thusly giving you a better rank. :D
PS - project-odyssey-asp.com is still available.
PSS - asp-project-odyssey.com is still available.
PSSS - project-asp-odyssey.com is still available.

That's a very bad one...which is why they can't sell it. SE's won't add any points to it any more than they'd add points to www.thisisaverylameaspaddress.com

Hey, Mhtml
Since you admitted that I made you think... :D here is some more food for thought:
First you need to deside what you web site is going to be about.
Project Odyssey sound good for a personal/educational web site. However I remember you mentioning the possibility of doing the design job for sale. If you want to have you web site representing this activity the word Project does not really fit. The better choices would be Odyssey Productions (my favorite), Odyssey Solutions, Odyssey Designs, Odyssey Consulting.
All the ASP* and *ASP choices are better suited for a developers corner type website that is focused on that particular aspect. Having it in the name of a business would be very confusing (unless developers are your target audience).

I will be doing designs through M5 Interactive which will be the business name, but until that name is registered as a business I am going to be using my development site.
Odyssey Productions is cool though.
Thanks Vladdy, I'm still not sure on what I will use yet there are some good ones in this thread.:)

i can't even spell odyssey. i always think a pinch of humour is good because there are so many bland websites out there and ultimately one would want visitors to refer others to your site.
myasphole.com - a fun design, asp resources etc

If you do decide on a name with 'odyssey' in it, I would also suggest registering the different variations of spelling as well:
oddyssey
oddysey
odysey
plus all of the above with a numeric 0 in place of the o.
...and then have these mispelled names directed to your proper site.
May also be an idea to get your isp to throw in ww. and wwww. names as people always miss one w out or put an additional one in when typing quickly.

i doubt MHTML would have that kind of cash to through around just for some domain names murphyz. but if he does he should also register the french, german, soanish, italien equivilents and have .com .net .org .co.uk endings

Exactly, at this moment I have $10 au which is a bit above $5 us..
lol
I should really get a job but I really don't want to work for someone else, I'm relying on Christmas just to register my business and domains as well as an upgrade on this go forsaken p2 200mhz. :)
I'm still thinking, this is the hardest part of making this site.
Thanks for the input so far I am reading it all and thinking hard.
I may register a .de though and have a german version of my site coz I can speak german although not very good my teacher can help me where I make mistakes.
Ich kann deutsch spreche nicht sehr gut. auf wiedersehen. :)

I'm from Australia.. Cool, a translater I'm going to be using that for my next german assignment....well actually not because the class is cancelled due to lack of interest..damn. Gott verdammen!
Anyway back to der Thema (topic), I'm really unsure about this still. All of these suggestions are great but I haven't decided yet.
I am still trying to think of a design as well which is just as hard. I really should get back to studying though coz my school certificate starts on Monday.
