Explorer style dropdown menus

OK - here's the problem:

I'm doing a recruitment site for film industry people. I need to do a drop down list of skills.

The problem is that I need it to show some submenus (preferably in the style of a normal dropdown windows menu).

It gets harder, though. On about 3 or 4 of the catagories I need to open up a list of checkboxes - ie if someone says that they're a 3d computer animator then we want to ask them to tick which software they use.

The hardest bit of all, though is that I'd quite like to get all of the data for the menu from a database.

I've been looking round the net for weeks now and haven't had any luck anywhere.

Please please please can you help or point me to someone who can.

Sounds like you might be better off breaking up this task into 2 or more steps, instead of trying to get it all done at once.

OK - this is what I figured. If I can just set up the explorer style drop downs from a database then the rest should be a lot easier (ie have a second page for the multi choices dependant on what's been chosen before.

Any ideas on the drop down would also be very gratefully received.
