I just added a favicon to my site and I cannot seem to get it to work. I added the code within the head tags and uploaded the icon to the root directory but I its still not working. I'm using IE6 and I have already tried restarting and dumping the cache and temp internet files.

My site:
www.webmarkart.com

my icon:
www.webmarkart.com/favicon.ico

Can someone check it out to see if it works for you? Thanks.

I have found that IE 6 is pretty weird about Favicons I have had one on my site for over a year and was working fine until I upgrade to 6. Now the Only Favicons that show up are the ones on Microsoft sites?

I checked yours using Netscape 7.0 and it shows up. :) But you need to get rid on the white background.

Hope this helps

Thanks, I just checked in in Netscape7 and it worked also. IE6 is definitely quirky about them. Other sites including this forum had their favicons showing just fine until I cleared my temp internet files and now they wont come back even after I restart my computer. Same goes for the sites I have in my links toolbar. Who knows. I'll take the white out and see what it looks like, but I personally like the white. Thanks for checking...

I always assumed that it would only show up when your site had been bookmarked.

Its suppose to show up when bookmarked or as a link in the link toolbar in IE. In Netscape it shows to the left of the url and I have seen sited in IE that do the same.

I'm not a huge MS fan, but if I were as rich as Bill Gates I would try to suffocate the other browsers also. Granted he's doing it for different reasons. I waste more time dealing with cross-browser issues than actually programming my site and I really only bother with IE and Netscape.

Hi Webmarket,
Just tested your site, sorry, no favicons for me either. I had similar problems with my site but eventually they all worked. Feel free to visit www.operafolks.com and check out all the 'dressing room' links as they all have the fav icon working ok, but as far as I can tell, with the exception of lower case letters, my code is the same as yours. I do have some sub-directories happening though. I feel a bit of a wanker offering advice as I'm sure you're far more competent at coding then I am but hopefully it'll help in some small way.
Regards,
