Hi,

Would it be a good idea for a start-up site to immediately implement your prices for advertising on your site (when they're really cheap), or isn't that a good tactic?

Secondly, does anyone know a good way to make your site profitable, i.e. to attract advertisers?

what type of site are you trying to attract advertisers to? Generally speaking you don't really want to give visitors to your site a reason or opportunity to leave. I obviously realize the need/benefits of having ads on your site, but I think it depends on the site itself.

my site is about comics, so from that market I'd like to draw advertisers...

Well, in my opinion doing that early will attract maybe a few advertisers, but if you get a lot of surfers and a lot of click throughs the advertisers will/should signup when their time runs out so when their time runs out you up the payment and since they are satisfied with the traffic they are getting exposed to they will/should.

As long as your site is appealing and easy to navigate and people stay as long as possible and come back frequently you could make it successful.
