So I was out of town recently when my housemates threw a party, and incidentally they managed to break my subwoofer.
It was one of those all-in-one Logitech Z-540 thingies, which was loud and good, but I bought it before I knew anything about audio other than "loud!"
Being the glass-half-full person that I am, I'm taking this as a good excuse to pick up a nice component-based system. The thing I really liked about my Z-540's was that it could approximate a surround sound signal from stereo input, which is all that my Powerbook (and Gamecube) can do, so that would be a nice feature... anyhoo, does anybody have some suggestions on speakers (brand, model, etc) and a subwoofer, as well as receivers and the like? I'm going for at least a 5.1 setup, and don't want one of those crappy Best Buy/Wal-mart packages they push off on you.
Thanks!
