Desktop - Regetry Edit (Win2000 NT)

hkey_current_user\control panel\desktop > wallpaper


i understand if i change the values of this to the location where your wanted wallpaper is located, it will change the wallpaper without using display settings in control panel. but it wont work. ive tried to restart and logoff, but still it wont change.

im trying this one because our school's admin disabled it. ive overwritten the current filename of the wallpaper but the wallpaper seems to be applied to all users that uses the computer. what i want here is that i will change the wallpaper for "me" only and not for all the users that uses the computer.

another thing, how can i change the screen resolution without going through display properties?

All those things are disabled for a reason, maybe it's a poor reason but a reason nonetheless. If it's important to you then you should be negotiating to get those items re-enabled instead of trying to find ways around the policies. If you simply find a way around the policies you may find new policies put into place that cut you off from even more tools.

Yeah and I'm suprised they haven't disabled the registry editing tools.

Most likely the values on the local machine are being overriden by the security policy being downloaded from your logon server. Thats why when you edit them it doesn't do anything. And by restarting the computer you are actually just making sure it re-downloads and re-applies the security policy.

However realize that even attempting to edit the registry to overriden the security policy is probably in violation of your network's terms of service agreement and they'd probably consider it hacking.

gee.. they even disabled the use of command prompt. hehehe...
