Hi, I'm a newbie here, and pretty new to css too. In the past i've managed to work this things out but i'm really stuck on this one.

Basically, my layout looks great in Firefox, but when I switch to IE it's cack!

What i think is happening is the content on the right is dropping to the bottom of the content on the left...but i've played with it and I just can't work it out.

Would really appreciate any help on this one.

I think you will benefit from this example http://bonrouge.com/2c-hf-fixed.php
I'm not sure what you are trying to do with the massive -480px margin. Just float the inner div to the right give that a width, then let the content fall into place. May have to give the content a right margin equal to the width of your inner div.

Thanks for your speedy response. I'll try what you suggested.

The layout there was taken from this site http://intensivstation.ch/templates/

hey aerospace eng,

I did what you suggested and recoded my page to the template you linked me too.

I still appear to have the same display problems in IE though :(

Can anyone help me out?

You did exactly the opposite of what I told you to do. Try this for the relevant CSS

#main {
float:left;
width:480px;
text-align:left;
}

#right {
position:relative;
width:262px;
float:left;
background-color: #e5f0ce;
}
