I'm trying to upload to a FTP for someone's website I'm doing (they have their own hosting), but I can't modify any files...

I can edit one file (index.htm), and I've noticed in CuteFTP that the owner for that file is showing as a different number to the other files (which I guess is part of the problem/solution), but I can't edit any other files or upload new ones. All files are set to chmod 644 though.

The hosting company is ufindus, and their online help isn't helpful. I'm thinking that perhaps the person has ordered a package which only lets you alter existing pre-made content (which is, in fairness, crap) through their software (which I haven't and don't want to install).

Any ideas?

In CuteFTP help, look for a topic called Changing file and folder permissions. Note especially what it says in Configuration Notes:

A gray check signifies the permission is granted for some files in a selected group, but not in others. You can still change the permission for the whole group.

If you cannot change permissions for a file or folder, the FTP server administrator must modify your account or the file permissions before you can modify permissions.
Hope this helps.
