Out of ASP.NET and PHP which do you think is the best coding language and why?

PHP - open source, runs on Linux and Windows, probably better support and help online because it's more widely used.

PHP - because it works on every OS (and if it doesn't work on the one you want, you have the source to port it to it), and it's more widely adopted, undoubtedly partly because it's free, and the help available for it.

PHP because you don't need IIS and you don't need .NET and you don't need Windows.
Although it has gotten better, asp.net produces non-standard code at times and .NET is too big for humans to ever take it all in so this makes it confusing, hard to work with and subject to change at the whim of Microsoft.

Well for those people who know .NET and are working for big companies that use it the answer would be .NET but for the other 95% of us the answer is PHP.

Trying to determine which language is "best" isn't something that can really be done. It just depends what you want to do, how much money you have to do it, and how much time you have. All languages have their strong points and weakness and it is just a matter of picking the right tool for the job.

I think if money is any issue, use PHP and MySQL. They are very easy to pick up and free to use. Very easy language in my opinion and with PHP 5 it is true OOP.
Otherwise, use .NET, especially if you are familiar with it. Form validation, amongst other things, is easier and the IDE is far superior to anything.
