Hi,

Ok I just downloaded the Bit Torrent downloader and went in search of an anime series I like. It is a 2GB file but I have a cable connection so I thought it would only take a few hours.

It comes up saying that it is going to take somewhere around 2 days!?

My upload rate is around 13- 15 kbs, but my download rate is usually between 10 - 13 and only occasionaly going up to 15kbs.

Is there a way to make this go any faster? Even a little bit more?

I'm not very computer savvy with these things, so if you could explain it in a simpe way, that would be great, lol.

Thanks in advance,

Ls :)

First, talking about illegally downloading stuff is against the rules.

However BT can be used for legal stuff so I'll explain how it works, it is a mutally sharing system. Your download doesn't always equal to the upload. For example when I downloaded the latest Gentoo install disc when it came out I was getting 350 KB/sec and only uploading 7 KB/sec. It just depends who else is on the torrent and their speeds and how much of the torrent you have to share, and what peices they need.

leave it on over night, then you get sources from other countries... you'll wake up and it'll have done more than you expected.

Your complaining about speed when your downloading something you shouldnt anyway??? you cant have everything

well now when i first got BT i was having the same problem and well i still am but there are a couple of things you need to make sure of when you are dl'ing something in BT

1. That the file you are downloading has enough seeders (assuming you know what that means), to make the dl faster and easier to achieve a better connection.
2. You will also need to right click on the file you are dl'ing ad go to advanced<Set download speed < then no limit. IF you click this a couple of times it should help....well it does for me. O and if you have just installed BT then go to tools<options<transfer and set upload speed to 60 ks and dl speed to 0 for unlimited.

That should put u on the direct path to a healthy dl.....O and one more thing even if you have a cable connection a 2Gb file will not be completed in a couple of hours, that could only be achieved if you have massive amounts of seeders.

What BT client are you using? some will not download as fast if you arnt uploading (leacher!!) I dont reccomend getting a client that allows leaching but make sure that your upload speed is not somethiong like 1kb/s. Mines about 384 and i get good download speeds on my connection.

Also on most bit torrent clients the download rate is proportional to the upload rate. In terms of client, I recommend Bit Comet.
