Hey whats up. I am new to linux. I have a question..

say I have 2 users:

"user1" & "root"

If I install some applications under "user1" then later on I decide that "user1" is taking up too much space on the hard-drive and I delete that account... Will I have deleted all of the applications that were installed by "user1" ?

cause I did just that, and It looked like it worked but then I restarted and I made a new account with the same name, "user1", and It still has all of the old applications and files.. maybe I'm missing something here.. is there another way of going about this?

i'm using - zenwalk-2.0.1 if it makes a difference I think it uses bash

It depends on where you install the programs. If you install them under user1's home directory then yes if you delete user1's account as well as his home directory then you will also delete those applications. You should install applications under the /usr directory. Normally /usr/share or /usr/local/share are where many applications are going to be installed. Browse around the /usr directory until you see where your distribution has installed most of the major applications. Here is a general overview of a Linux/Unix filesystem
