View Full Version : Anyone want to critique my 1st site?
I know it's really basic, but suitable for what I need...and I built it for free. Any comments however would be much appreciated!
keep in mind I've only been coding for 1 month, so be gentle!
Thanks all
cheers

nice :)
actual content text a little to big for my liking
the navigation mouseover pictures look good
you say plain, but it shows restraint which some people forget about in websites.
and perhaps change the link colors :D

4 the links u could try maybe not underlined then underlined or
not underlined then underlined w/ a diff color. very nice design btw :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY!
So you think the text should be smaller? I'll try it! What about the bold? It's all in bold right now...it seemed like it needed to be cause the sites so wimpy. Should I make it plain? should I reduce size and make it plain? I don't even know at this point cause I'll stared at it for so loooooong I've lost all objectivity!
also... what colors do you sugges for the rollovers?
thanks

I like it, but would cut back on the use of bold.

i dont think the text should be bold, and the links dont have to have diff colors , u could just have it not underlined then underlined. thats what i do on my site :)

make it smaller and keep it bold, unless the content will contain alot of text information.
what i normally do in a page is choose about 3 or 4 diff. colors for all the content
example: white back and black text, with red for say table borders. or smaller items
that makes 3 colors, then you can make the links red to match the 3rd and less used color.
make it match i say
but thats just what I like to do.
you do whatever you want. :)
I appreciate all of your replies more than you know!
I have updated my site using some of your suggestions... I made the text smaller, but kept it bold. and on the CONACT & BOOKING page I have tried a new color scheme for the links on the left...
Do you like the CONTACT & BOOKING page color scheme for the links or should I leave it like the rest of my site?
BTW... in dreamweaver, I am getting a Invalid Markup error. It says " Marked invalid because it doesn't belong inside the tag it's in." However, the site still works fine.
here's the code hightlighted:
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" background="images/images/backg.gif" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" onLoad="MM_preloadImages('images/nav/ratesOD.gif','images/nav/policiesOD.gif','images/nav/contactOD.gif','images/nav/aboutOD.gif')">
any ideas...or any more suggestions?
cheers

alright... I've decided I like the new look that I had I on the contact page. I've updated the entire site. I am happy with it for the most part! Thanks for all your replies.
Now...I have one more thing I would like to do to the site but have no idea how to do it?!? Maybe someone can help me out...
I want to make the white background around the grey rectangle link bar black (the skinny are of white around it on the left). Also, the white horizontal area above the headings and text of each page black (the area directly below my nav bar.)
...uuhhh...and how do I do that? ;)
cheers
