View Full Version : Annoying Dreamweaver Behavior

I am forced to use Dreamweaver for a certain project, and I have it set up to automatically upload the working file each time I save it locally. Seems like every time I do this, and/or every time I switch to another window and then go back to DW, I get a message dialog saying "This file has been modified outside of Dreamweaver. Do you want to reload it?", when I know for a fact it has not been modified outside of DW. It does this for EVERY DOCUMENT I have opened in the editor. All I can think is that the server is in a different timezone, or for some reason the time is set incorrectly on the server, and DW thinks the remote copy is newer than my local... This is minor but gets really really really aggravating. Anyone experience this, or have any ideas how to make it go away, so I don't have to click "NO" every time I save?

I'd say don't have it uploaded every time you save a document locally but use the synchronize function once you've finished editing the files for the task at hand. I know this requires remembering to actually do the synchronisation, but I personally found this an acceptable way of working.

.. it's a permissions problem with your mount.
Make sure that SMB or whatever you use is placing files as is actually the user you are mounted as. Do a ls- al on the directory and double check the user/group is right.
Use something like Webmin if you don't know how.. and joila! Dreamweaver doesn't give spit out that annoying message: "This file has been modified outside of Dreamweaver. Do you want to reload it?"
Stupid software.. pretty easy fix.

Go to preferences and select file types. Reload modified files.

Just to let you know.... The last post here before yours was about two years ago... I don't think they're still looking for the answer.

Very true. However, since pages like this are indexed by google, anyone looking to resolve the same question may find his answer helpful.

And like me too, which highlights why answering questions on message boards, even years later, is still helpful.

Replying to a thread that is years old doesn’t change anything in the ranking or “findability” of this thread on Google. The thread is there, no matter whether or not there have been replies. So please refrain from digging up old threads just to say how cool this is.
