would using -- <%session.timeout=1440 %>
make a site load slowly?
My problem is my site is sometimes loading fast and sometimes slow --- (strange as it's always changing)
is this more likely to be something in the code causing this or the hosting company?

using sessions is consuming server resources, so any performance drop might be caused by the hosting company (combined with the number of connected clients) if the code is unchanged compared with periods of good performance

i'll put it down to 30 mintues and see if it helps but what other things in code can cause it to be slow. (and if so why wouldn't it be slow all the time vs. only part of the time) (soemtimes it can load in 2 seconds and sometimes takes 12 seconds)

depends, if there is a lot of server processing going on on the page, the server availability determines if the page is going to load fast or slow. That means, if there are a lot clients connected and the server is not very fast or you share it with a lot of other sites from other cutomers of the hosting company, then there can be huge performance fluctuations. If the server processing is minimal, the connection bandwidth is the fact with a lot of influence

but if the client pays for 1 gb -- is there reason for the hosting company to say it's something in the code?? (and what else could be causing that? -- this is a site pulling info from an sql db and the only not so normal thing i thought of is that we set teh session to 24 hours)
