Well, I think I just about have this looking the way I envisioned it, figured I would pass it through some of you just to see what you think. I tried to simulate the look of my handheld calculator with a little bit of background flare, thus the color choices. For the most part, it still needs a little bit of tweaking here and there to get a good balance between the various browsers, but my goal was to lay it out so that it would fit any screen resolution without having to scroll which, from what I've been able to test, seems to have worked.

Anyways, I am looking for suggestions and comments. I haven't validated the code just yet, and none of the features work at the moment since I am really trying to hammer down this layout.

One thing I have noticed is that FF and IE have a bit of a conflict with the display near the bottom. Below the text area, IE is showing a bit more of a "blank space" than FF. I am going to run through a positioning check again, but if this is a common thing between the two browsers and anyone has any ideas of how I might go about balancing this, I would welcome the suggestion.

looks good in netscape and opera, as well as ie.

not that you need to pay attention to this, but resolutions lower than
800 X 600 screw things up for you.

try this <BODY style="overflow:hidden"> to get rid of the scroll bar.

Yeah, I suspected there might be a problem at resolutions below 800x600 but I cant test them on my system. Unfortunately, I have to make a sacrifice somewhere when it comes to size. Wanted it to be visible for as many as possible, but didn't want to make it so small that it looked tiny on higher resolutions.

I'm not too worried about the scrollbar situation as far as the browser is concerned. I can live with that for the most part. As I said, still got a bit of tweaking to do here and there, but at least it is beginning to come inline the way I pictured it.

Thanks

Since you were nice enough to check out my site, I thought you might
like to see something...

starcalc (http://www.hawkeyesmiles.com/starcalc.swf)

this would be a kickass application for SwishMAX. check how it behaves
at various resolutions and screen sizes! only 4k too.

I did this because you seem to be the type of person to really enjoy
a truly powerful state of the art product.

Powerful, yes, but I also like simplicity.

I liked the look of what you came up with, but I have an overall theme that is going to be applied to several calculator type applications ranging from subjects that are "futuristic" to subjects that are "medieval."

Admittedly, if I were going for just the futuristic look, that would have worked well. Given the overall nature of the package, however, that particular rendition wouldn't fit well with something that more "medieval" or middle-ages based.

umm... well i think it is very well suited for what it does. I think that most of the visitors and users of this type of calculator will not care what the site looks like as long as the calculator is functional... but i'm sure they will be refreshed by the clever background you have.
