ISO-8859-1 charset declaration question

I am in the process of reworking a web page. I just sent it through a validation and it is tentatively valid against 4.01 transitional standards. It is telling me that it cant find the charset definition which is reasonable because I haven't defined it.

My intent is to use ISO-8859-1, but for the life of me, I am completely confused on the declaration of it, so if someone could take a moment to explain, or offer an example, I would be much appreciative.

valid against 4.01 transitional No closing slash needed... ;) (it's a habit, I reckon :D ).

Yup I noticed after I posted... :)

Yeah, closing slashes are only required for XHTML. Still, it's a good habit if you're familiar with or might use XHTML so that you don't have to go back and add all the slashes if you decide to upgrade to an XHTML doctype; that is, it doesn't really hurt anything.

Closing slash or no closing slash, that was exactly the info I needed and I figured out to remove the closing slash. Thanks much, that hooked me up perfectly.
